Society, Economy and Development: Challenges and Opportunities

India is a developing country whose socio-economic status is variable due to the socio-cultural, geographical and regional diversity. After seven decades of independence, India has made herself socially and economically self-reliant and put herself on the Global map. This socio-economic development of India did not happen in a day. It took place through various changes and challenges such as social projects and plans, social conflicts, social process and interactions, Industrialization, International trade, investments from Multinational Corporations etc. Some of these developments have been done by India’s own using independent technologies and investments and rest have been driven by foreign investments through globalization. However, it must be acknowledged that this progress or development has not taken place equally throughout India, due to cultural pluralism and diversity, geographical diversity, miscellaneous social problems, unequal distribution of mineral resources, administrative and political liabilities, different types and stages of development can be observed in different parts of India. So, the main purpose of this book is to discuss Indian society and economy as well as the nature and pace of development.
