The book entitled, “SECONDARY TEACHER EDUCATION IN INDIA: PROBLEMS, ISSUES AND CHALLENGES (An Example from Manipur)” is a collection of articles written by teacher educators working in different teacher education institutions in Manipur. It is partly the upshot of the One Day State Level Seminar on the theme, “Teacher Education in Manipur: Problems and Prospects” held in Imphal during 2011 wherein the Editor was the seminar coordinator. The book at large deals with developmental trends of secondary teacher education programmes in Manipur from historical point of view; role of B.Ed. colleges; the concern and need for raising the quality of teacher education; rule for effective teacher education programme ; the role played by libraries in teacher education; perception of both teachers and students towards B.Ed. course through distance mode; reaction of student teachers towards education for sustainable development; issues and challenges of school internship; differential concerns of teacher education in US and in India; stress among teachers; new vision; in-service education; general problems of teacher education; and new methods and techniques of teaching use during these COVID days. Besides, due focus is given on broad framework of teacher education as considered in the new National Education Policy-2020. It is my firm conviction and expectation that these eighteen (18) articles incorporated in this edited book will definitely facilitate readers who hunt for knowledge and information concerning diverse aspects of teacher education programme being implementing in Manipur in terms of problems, defects, mismatches, issues and new challenges associated particularly with teacher education institutions (B.Ed. Colleges) where B.Ed. programme is offered. The various suggestions and recommendations made through these articles in the light of the tribulations, issues, concerns, challenges and opportunities discussed will convincingly help both the students, researchers and particularly the stack holders of Teacher Education in formulating new policy planning for desired enhancement in this sector of education.
