Rural Development and Disparity: Maldah District explores the complex relationship between progress and inequality in a predominantly agrarian region of West Bengal. While rural development is often associated with improvements in livelihoods, infrastructure, and social well-being, the benefits of such progress are not always evenly distributed. This book highlights how disparities persist across different areas within Maldah district, shaped by geographical conditions, resource availability, and socio-economic structures. Focusing on both growth and imbalance, the study examines how development initiatives interact with local realities, sometimes reducing inequalities while at other times reinforcing them. It brings out the contrasts between developed and underdeveloped pockets, offering insights into the challenges of achieving inclusive and sustainable rural development.
By combining conceptual understanding with regional analysis, the book provides a critical perspective on the nature of rural transformation in Maldah. It is particularly relevant for those interested in development studies, regional planning, and the dynamics of inequality in rural India. Overall, the book provides a systematic and multidimensional assessment of rural development and disparity in Maldah district, making it a valuable resource for researchers, academicians, planners, and policymakers interested in regional development and rural transformation.
