The book entitled "Climate Change and Agricultural Practices in India" contains the papers presented at the 25th Annual Conference and National Seminar of the Association of Geographers, Bihar and Jharkhand (AGBJ) organized by the Department of Geography, Patna University on 27-28 October 2024. Recently, climate change has drawn the attention of scholars and scientists worldwide, as it adversely affects human life and socio-economic activities, particularly agriculture and its associated practices, along with other geographical phenomena. The present book is organised into three sections- each includes papers related to various themes of climate Change and agricultural practices, Climate change and food security, and Climate change and society. The book contains articles on the impact of climate change on agriculture, crop yields and productivity, poultry and dairy farming, groundwater-based agriculture, food security, agro-production, and sustainable development. The pace of climate change has accelerated in recent times due to increasing human intervention. This has resulted in intense summers, excessive rainfall, and extreme winters, which further affect human life and resources. The book also covers other aspects of climate change, including rainfall-induced landslide hazards, climate change and health, urban growth and its impact on agriculture, the role of biodiversity in maintaining ecological balance, urban heat islands as a consistent human intervention in cities, the effect on tourism, and so on.
Thus, the present book aims to provide an understanding of climate change and its impact on agricultural practices, as well as how this change affects food security and other activities in India. This will help students, research scholars, and planners to develop effective strategies for preparing policies for promoting food security and the sustainable development of the country.
