This book is an attempt to present the typology of residential quality within an urban limit. Residential patterns on the basis of selected standard parameters are found in this study. The concept of 'Smart City' is on top of the priority agenda of the government. When the term smart is used for the towns and cities the quality parameters goes side by side to measure the residential standard prevalent in small towns of India. This research is an outcome of thirty six variables of social, economic, demographic, civic and housing nature. The combined effect of these variables establishes five dimensions such as (i) Income and housing, (ii) Amenities and infrastructure, (iii) Housing conditions (iv) Crowding and (v) Owner occupancy. On the basis of these dimensions of quality, author has succeeded in developing a theoretical method to classify city in sectors. These sectors are found in patterns that have developed due to the availability of facilities out of the thirty six variables of quality parameters. This book is very much relevant for the postgraduate and research level students. Apart from it is also useful for the planners, administrators, environmentalists, sociologists and those involved in urban development.
