This book is the first full length, detailed and properly documented account of the economic relations of the Soviet Union with India, over a period of thirty years from 1947 to 1980. This is an in-depth analysis of Indo-Soviet relations in global context. \nThe main thrust of the analysis is to characterised the nature of these relations. The idea has been to examine whether or not these relations conform to the principles of scientific socialism. The two questions specifically examined are: how far these relations are free from exploitation and to what extent they have contributed to achievement of economic independence of India a non-socialist developing country, Whole of the discussion is in the light of neocolonial framework of exploitation of the developing countries by advanced countries of the world. \nOne of the strength of this work is that the approach is not dogmatic. Where possible several estimates and different points of view are presented and critically analysed. The work is in a highly controversial area, therefore, the conclusions are drawn on the basis of facts and figures and the book contains a wealth of statistical and other information which is invaluable source of reference. \nThe work will be of particular interest to scholars who are studying international economic relation from Marxist point of view.
